February Editors Letter

Traditionally, this time of year stirs thought of intimate love. We are tempted to purchase Valentine’s Day gifts of chocolate, perfumes and lingerie. However, this February, I challenge you to look at love, the heart, and your intimate relationships through a different tint of lens. Take off those heart-shaped, rose-colored glasses, and look out with a clearer view of reality. This issue of HB Magazine includes several articles that cover topics common to February. However, the angle or … [Read more...]

Another year is upon us. Not just any year, but the controversial year of 2012. There have been books, historical documents, a movie, theories, gossip and arguments surrounding this often-discussed year, particularly the month of December. If you are unaware of my reference, just google it and you’ll find a plethora of information, mainly covering the commonly asked question: “will the world end in 2012?” I believe that our world will continue on, marching to its own beat. Welcome to the month of October! As we move closer to the coming holidays, most of us begin to think about staving off cravings; or, at least trying not to eat everything in sight. But, it seems we often overlook the eating habits of our youngsters throughout this time of year. With each passing holiday, as my children load their plates with festive fare, and I offer a parental disapproval, the folks around me politely say “oh, it’s ok, let them have all ten of those desserts…the holidays … [Read more...]

The first thing that comes to my mind in September: school. Where I grew up, school always started the day after Labor Day. It seems that the West Coast area deems August as the best month to begin school. Yes, those smoldering days are sure to add to any hot, irritable and sweaty child’s attention span. All joking aside, my family is adjusting to the “early” start date. This year, I have an 8th grader and twin daughters in Kindergarten. My little guy still has a couple more years to … [Read more...]
