If you follow a diet high in bone building materials and other nutrients and cut out all grains (esp. whole grains with bran) and processed sugars there will be no gum recession or otherwise any problems.
To support bone remodelling a 'primal' or paleolithic diet is recommended. Grains, nuts and legumes are high in phytic acid which bind with minerals and get eliminated with stool. You don't want that when trying to build new bone. Irritation to cheeks from brackets can quickly be healed over night with L-glutamine.
Bone building foods are Oysters, Clams, Pastured Butter, Fish, Grass-fed Meats and Organ Meats esp. Livers, Raw Milk and Cheese, Bone Broth, Bone Marrow, green leafy Vegetables and Herbs, raw fermented Fish, fermented Juices such as fermented Beet Juice, Vegetable Stews...just to name a few.
