Sanotint Hair Color

300-sanotintDying to dye your hair? Many cases exist where individuals have ended up in the hospital due to an allergic reaction to the intense chemicals in their hair-coloring product.

Allergic reactions to hair products, such as itching and redness can be harmless, but some catastrophic cases have resulted in asthma attacks, multi-organ failure and hospitalization.

There is reason to believe that allergic reactions experienced as the result of using commercial hair color may be triggered not only by a specific chemical contained in the hair color but also by the amount of that chemical. Since 60 percent of what is placed on the skin is absorbed into the blood, reducing the amount of chemicals in your hair color could, therefore, mean a reduced risk of allergic reaction. As an analogy, a glass of wine a day may be healthy, however a bottle of wine a day is not.

SanoTint, manufactured in Switzerland, is the most natural hair-coloring product on the market that creates a deep, rich, permanent hair color that will cover grey hair.

SanoTint hair color uses Golden Millet and natural plant extracts to safely color your hair without damaging it. SanoTint hair color is a safe, do-it-yourself hair treatment due to the natural ingredients of its formula, which are: extracts of Golden Millet, Olive, Birch and Grape Seed as well as Calcium Pantothenate (Vitamin B5) and Biotin.

It is important to note that there is no such thing as a purely natural hair color, if you want permanent color you have to use chemicals. Although SanoTint uses chemicals, they use the least amount possible. SanoTint contains no ammonia, less than two percent peroxide (instead of the 10-12 percent that other brands use) and less than 0.5 percent p-Phenylenediamine (PPD). The SanoTint Light product actually eliminates PPD and is one of the most natural hair colors on the market.

SanoTint has been dermatologically tested, is free of parabens, alcohol and preservatives, is not tested on animals and does not contain derivatives of animal origin. Those who have experienced allergic reactions to commercial hair color find that SanoTint can safely provide them with lasting coverage. Every individual’s body chemistry is unique; therefore it is strongly recommended to have a sensitivity test done before using any hair-coloring product.

VIVASAN USA™ is the exclusive importer and distributer for SanoTint products in the United States.

I am allegic to PPD, is this product gooing to be okay for me to use?

  7. editorial says:

Hi Diane. Thank you for your comment! Here is what VIVASAN USA had to say in response to your question…

Everyone’s body chemistry is unique and there is no way to predict how any one person will react to a given hair color. SanoTint Light does not contain the chemical compound para-Phenylenediamine, but it does contain other chemicals that accomplish the same purpose and there is no guarantee that your body will not react to one of these chemicals.

We sell SanoTint hair color to 100′s of women throughout the U.S. and 99.9% of them do not have a problem with SanoTint, either the Classic SanoTint (which does contain PPD) or SanoTint Light (without PPD). Most of these women come to us because they have already had a bad reaction to commercial hair color and some of them have given up coloring their hair altogether. What they tell us is that, for some, even Classic SanoTint is mild enough that they have no reaction to it.

The advantage of SanoTint is not that it is free of chemicals, but that it is formulated to use the absolute minimum concentration necessary to create a lasting permanent hair color. In addition, the natural ingredients contained in SanoTint; Golden Millet, Olive, Birch and Grape Seed extracts, plus the Biotin and Calcium Panthothenate work to counteract the effect of the hair coloring process so that your hair is actually stronger, shinier and healthier as a result.

I hope you find this helpful. Best in health and happiness, HB Magazine

    Hi,
would you please tell me the difference between Sano Tint Light and Classic?
I also want to know if there is a individual Shampoo and Mascara for sale?
    thank you very much

  9. editorial says:

Hi Edna. Thank you for the comment and the inquiry. Here is what Vivasan USA had to say…

The difference between SanoTint Classic and SanoTint Light is that SanoTint Classic contains PPD and SanoTint Light does not (hence the name Light). Because SanoTint light does not contain PPD, it does not have the same range of colors as the SanoTint Classic product. SanoTint Light has a more limited range of colors and the colors tend to be of a lighter shade. For example, with SanoTint Classic the darkest shade is Black, but with SanoTint Light, the darkest shade is Natural Brown. This tends to be the main difference most women notice, since most women are looking for darker colors to color grey hair.

Yes, SanoTint offers a selection of many different shampoos; for normal hair, oily hair, damaged hair, dandruff and also SanoTint Colorcare shampoo specifically for colored hair. We also sell the SanoTint Hair Balm separately. This is not a shampoo, but a conditioner.

We also have a complete line of cosmetics manufactured by the same company that makes the SanoTint products; lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, lipliner and face powder.

Hope this helps! Best in health and happiness, HB Magazine

  12. Mary says:

Hello and thank you very much for your very helpful post!

I am 27 and I have been dyeing my hair since 20. My natural hair colour is brown (not dark, not very light either) and I use sweedish blond to dye my hair (the actual colour that my hair takes with that dye is something like gold blond). I love this colour, but I have a bad reaction in all dyes and I am afraid that if I keep using all these chemical products things will get worse… I have tried hair dyes without ammonia, but tha problem was even worse and the colour of my roots did not lighten at all. I searched the internet and I think that my problem is ppd.. I tried some other natural products without ppd but they could not lighten the colour of the hair… Can light Sanotint lighten the colour of the hair? i.e. make the brown roots become blonde, or this is not possible?

I have seen that the company also has a lightening cream. Is this product ppd free and if yes, can I use it in compination with a light colour dye to lighten my hair colour?

Thank you very very much for your time and help and congrats for your side!

    Mary

  13. editorial says:

SanoTint hair color offers beautiful hair color and excellent gray coverage, but it is not designed to lift hair color. Lifting your hair color requires substantial amounts of peroxide and bleach, which SanoTint does not have.

SanoTint Light hair color does not contain ammonia or PPD, but, again, most of the SanoTint Light hair colors are not intended to lift hair color. There are two of the SanoTint Light hair colors that have an extra lightening effect: these are SanoTint Light No. 87, Extra Light Golden Blonde, and No. 88, Extra Light Blonde. However, because SanoTint Light does not contain PPD, it will not give you the same ash blonde color that you may be looking for.

It’s difficult to answer specific personal questions about using SanoTint hair color without more information. For more detailed information about using SanoTint hair color, call us at VIVASAN USA, 775-826-8482 and ask to speak with Lana. Thank you for your comment Mary!

  16. Marina Ythier Jacobsz says:

    Hi there

I have read a few negative reviews of SanoTint light, that say that it doesn’t contain PPD but contains a derivative of PPD, which can cause bad allergic reactions? Could you cfm if it contains a derivative of PPD?

    Thks

    Marina

  17. editorial says:

Permanently changing the color of your hair is a complex process; the cuticle of the hair must be opened, your natural color removed, the new color deposited and then the cuticle must be closed again. This is, by definition, an unnatural process and can only be accomplished with chemicals. The main chemical used in permanently coloring hair is para-Phenylenediamine, commonly known as PPD.

The SanoTint Light product does not contain PPD, but it does contain other chemical ingredients that are necessary in order to accomplish the same purpose. Are these ingredients derivitives of PPD? Only a trained, professional chemist could tell you that. But they are, most probably, in the same family of organic chemicals as PPD.

We sell SanoTint Light to hundreds of women (and men). Many of our customers have had serious allergic reactions to hair color in the past, because of PPD, and have found that SanoTint Light is mild enough that they can use it without any problem. For some of our customers, SanoTint Light is the only hair color they can use.

But, as mild as SanoTint Light may be, there is no guarantee that any one person will not react to it. Everyone’s body chemistry is unique and someone who may be allergic to the entire family of organic chemicals used in hair color may find that they have an allergic reaction, even to a product as mild as SanoTint Light. Based on our experience, we can say that maybe 1 person in 100 will have a reaction to SanoTint Light.

Ultimately, the only way to know how you, personally, will respond is to test the product carefully, on yourself. The chances are very good that you will be able to use it without a problem. Thank you for your comment Marina. Best in health and happiness.

  18. Kate says:

Does SanoTint Light cover gray hair as well as the Classic formula? Is it more of a semi-permanent color?

Also, I need to just touch up my roots in between doing my whole head. Can I use part of the product and save the rest for another application? I used to use Herbaceuticals naturcolor and used each box 3 times.

    Thank you for your help!

  19. editorial says:

Thank you for your comment Kate. Here’s what VIVASAN had to say…

Yes, SanoTint Light provides the same excellent gray coverage as SanoTint Classic. Both products are permanent hair color. But, because SanoTint does not use ammonia and contains only the minimal amount of peroxide, SanoTint will not lift your hair color. Also, because SanoTint Light does not contain PPD, its color palette tends to be lighter and warmer, without the colder ash colors.

And, yes, you can use only part of the product and save the rest for another application. However, since matching colors between 2 different products can be difficult, we recommend that the fist time you touch up your roots with SanoTint, you mix the entire package. Begin to apply the product on your roots first, and then comb the rest of the color through your hair in order to help insure consistent matching of the color from your previous hair color.

Hope this helps! Best in health and happiness, Healthy Beginnings Magazine

Hi, Regretfully, I am allergic to hair dye. I have tried so many kinds. When hair dye touches my skin it burns my skin, plus most times a rash appears & some hairdyes I’ve ended up in E.R. with my face swollen. Yesterday, My hairdresser tried Sanotint light in a patch test colour- Dk.Brown. Regretfully, I had anallergic reaction—my skin where it was placed (inner elbow) is burned. I have to say of all hairdyes I’ve tried this one I had the least reaction. Do you think I should try it on my scalp? I don not know what chemical I am allergic too. In oral medication I am allergic to sulfa. Is this chemical in hairdye? Thank You, Sheila.

  21. editorial says:

    Hello Sheila,

First, we are very sorry to hear about your reaction to the patch test. If your skin reacted to the patch test, then do not apply hair color to your scalp! SanoTint Light is one of the mildest hair colors on the market. If you had a reaction to SanoTint Light, then it is very possible that you will not be able to color your hair, at least not permanently. I know this is not what you want to hear, but your good health is more important than your hair color.

If your skin reacted to the patch test, then you should not use the product, regardless of what ingredients you may be allergic to, or what ingredients are in SanoTint Light.

It may still be possible that you could color your hair with a rinse. Because these kinds of products are not a permanent hair color, they are much milder than regular permanent hair color, but they need to be applied more frequently.

  22. sheila says:

Thank You for your response. I wish someone would come out with a hairdye for people like me.
I am wondering if it would be safe if I get my hairdresser to apply sanoTint hairdye as highlights by using a cap with a liner & pull strands of hair out?
By a rinse does that include semi- permanent dyes?
    Does SanoTint have these rinses
    Thank You, Sheila.

  23. editorial says:

    Hello Sheila,

As you probably remember from your experience with the patch test, SanoTint Light is not a liquid product: it comes in the form of a paste. Because it is a paste, it is possible that your hairdresser could, very carefully, apply the color directly to your hair without touching your scalp. However, it will not be possible to color your roots if you apply the color in this way.

Semi-permanent hair colors will also contain peroxide, ammonia and possibly PPD, so these would probably not help you. A rinse is a temporary hair color. Temporary hair colors do not deposit color into the cuticle of the hair, so they do not use the same kinds of chemicals as permanent or semi-permanent hair color. They are very mild and easy to apply, but they can also wash out faster when you shampoo your hair. Unfortunately, SanoTint does not offer a temporary color.

  26. Mary says:

Hello and thank you very much for the very helpful site!

I searched the internet and found Sanotint Light, because I had allergies in all other dyes – probably to ppd -not sure. I know that it is not designed to lift hair color – however I bought N.87 which has special lightening effect and tried it in a small hair area on my scalp. I have naturally chestnut-coloured hair and I dye them as gold blonde. I was amazed to see that the color was lifted! However, I felt a very little burning not on my scalp, but behind my neck where I applied the product. 1) Do you think I should try the product on my whole scalp? 2) I left the product almost one hour to see the change in color. Is this bad??? 3) could you please tell me what is the percentage of ethanolamine in this product??

Thank you very much for your help and advice,

    Mary

  27. editorial says:

    Hello Mary,

It’s true, both SanoTint Classic and SanoTint Light are not designed to lift hair color: they work best to match your existing color and cover grey. However, the SanoTint Light colors No. 87 & No. 88 are extra light blonde colors and do have a lightening effect, as you discovered.

Because SanoTint does not have the high concentration of chemicals that commercial hair colors have, it does take longer for it to work. Depending on the color you are using and the effect you hope to achieve, you may need to leave the color in your hair for between 30 to 45 minutes. You can adjust that time as you have more experience with the product on your hair and your individual results. However, it should not be necessary to leave the color in your hair for more than 1 hour.

The entire amount of the chemical base used by SanoTint to permanently deposit color into your hair is about 3%. That mixture may change between the SanoTint Classic and Light colors, since SanoTint Light does not use PPD. It may also change between individual colors, darker vs. lighter. But the percentage remains the same. So, any individual ingredient will always be less than that 3%. The other 97% consists of natural ingredients. SanoTint is not only a hair color, it is designed to also nourish your hair and counteract the harsh effects of coloring. Many of our customers comment not only on the quality of the color, but also how happy they are with the overall look of their hair after using SanoTint.

You are the only person who can decide what is best for you, based on your personal experience with other brands of hair color in the past, your experience with SanoTint and how your body reacted to these products. And, of course, your own personal need to color your hair.

    Best in health and happiness.

  28. Mary says:

Thank you very much for your answer! I asked because I searched the internet I found that some people claim that if ethanolamine replaces ammonia, then ethanolamine should be at about 6% and I was worried.. As I see from your answer, this is not true for Sanotint, since it should be absolutely less than 3%. Another question please: If I decide to lighten them more, is it but for the hair to leave them more than 50 minutes? Like I said before, I left the product for about an hour… Can the hair get “burned” because of more time? And how often can I use the product? Once a month or even more frequent?

Thank you very much for your helpful answers!

    Mary

  29. editorial says:

When you mix the SanoTint hair color together, a chemical reaction begins that progresses over about an hour. SanoTint Light is a very mild product, it will not “burn” your hair. But there is no need to leave the color in your hair for more than an hour, simply because it will have no effect beyond that time.

If you are looking for a way to lighten your hair beyond what the SanoTint hair color will normally achieve, then you might try the SanoTint Lightening Kit. This is basically an oxidizer, like peroxide, that can be used by itself, or can be mixed with one of the SanoTint colors for an extra lightening effect. Because of the nature of this product, you do need to be careful about over-treating your hair when using it.

SanoTint is a permanent hair color: the color will remain in your hair until your hair grows out. Once you have achieved an overall color for your hair with SanoTint, it should only be necessary to use the product occasionally to color your roots. How often you do this just depends on how quickly your hair grows. Typically, this is once a month, but it could be more frequent.
