Reiki and Relationships

Reiki and energy healing can be defined as the transference of the Universal Life Force to another. It increases the life energy within and without a person, leading to a sense of well-being, increased energy, and a higher sense of connectedness to the natural world and to others. Stress, pain, anxiety, and depression can negatively affect our bodies and how we feel about ourselves, consequently hurting our relationships and our health. We are not at our best and often have very little to give. Negative emotions can feel heavy, and take everything we have to get through the day. Personal and business relationships suffer because we have less energy to contribute to them.

Stress and pain negatively affect our bodies and spirits as well as our relationships. It is difficult to feel happy, encouraging, or very social when you are anxious or in pain. When you feel negative emotions, such as sadness, anxiety or anger, there is likely a decrease or blockage of life energy or chi (vital force). Energy healings, such as Reiki, can help change a person’s attitude toward life, decrease anxiety, and increase energy. When energy blocks are cleared, negative mental and emotional states can be changed. Reiki can lessen pain and improve one’s feelings of connectedness, and happiness towards oneself and others. This positively affects relationships with significant others, family members, co-workers, and humanity in general.

In “The Power of Now,” Eckhart Tolle describes the harmful effects of negative energy created by negative emotions or thoughts. Unhappiness in you can spread to others around you. Negative energy contaminates the things one does and one’s relationships. He states: “[A]ny negative inner state is contagious: Unhappiness spreads more easily than a physical disease. Through the law of resonance, it triggers and feeds latent negativity in others.”

Energy healing can clear the head and heart, making room for a light heart and a clear mind, both essential for building and developing relationships. Physical and emotional pain lessens, allowing for a new perspective and experiences. It can work as a mere “dusting” away of pesky energies that are stagnate and hinder the workings of the heart, or it can work deeper as it bathes a person with healing light to soften past wounds. Attention can then be placed on one’s present situation and relationships, providing opportunities for greater happiness.
