Uncertain Future of Wolf Pack Meats Threatens Local Ranching Industry

Albaugh diversified their ranching operation a year ago to sell beef and lamb directly to local retailers and consumers. Sales tripled in one year. Albaugh depends on Wolf Pack Meats to process their animals as they are the only USDA-inspected slaughtering and processing facility in the area, a requirement for direct sales “It would be a tremendous loss if Wolfpack had to shut its doors,” said Ingram. He added that UNR Main Station Farm holds great potential for training people to work with livestock, host educational trainings with a hands-on focus, and conduct applied research, adding that they would have the potential to do even more things as UNR budgets stabilize over the next few years.  www.NevadaGrown.com

Reno Councilwoman Appeals Planning Commission Decision for University Farm

Reno City Councilwoman Jessica Sferazza is one of three persons who have filed appeals to the Reno Planning Commission’s recommendation for a zoning change to a section of the University of Nevada Main Station Farm located along McCarran Boulevard. Sferazza is councilwoman for Ward 3 where the property is located. She was elected to the Council in 2000, becoming the youngest Council member ever elected in the city’s history.The appeal will be heard by the Reno City Council at 6:00 p.m., Dec. 14 at Reno City Hall. The public is encouraged to attend.
