Negative Feelings Affect You Health

By Sienna Marie Wise
What is Transformational Life Coaching?
When life isn’t working for us, we respond in many different ways: we may withdraw, lash out, blame others, blame ourselves, get a divorce, change our job, feed our addictions, work harder. All of these behaviors—and more—work temporarily to help us avoid feeling our pain or hurt. But the suppressed pain is still there, eating away at us, controlling our lives, and stopping us from living abundantly and joyfully.
Transformational Life Coaching is a partnership with a trained coach who will gently guide us through the process of feeling the pain, purging and releasing it, so we are free from it forever.
What is the purge & release process and how does it work?
Purge and release is simply letting go of our feelings. When we think of an unpleasant situation in our life, we can feel the negative
energy in our body. Now we can let go of that feeling. This opens up a space for deeper feelings to surface, which in turn can be released. Over time we can allow all our past hurts to come up and we can release them—without having to be re-traumatized by them. This is the road to transformation and true healing.
As we go through the purge and release process, it’s like peeling away layers of an onion. We may think we’ve healed something in our life, but we may only have released a few of the layers. As long as we’re open to it, the remaining layers will surface.
What is negative energy?
The pain or tightness you feel in your body (generally in the chest area or solar plexus) is simply negative energy. This energy is created by thoughts or beliefs charged with emotion. When you purge and release this feeling, a layer of negative energy is gone, and the emotional charge is also gone.
Is the purge and release process hard to do?
No. Purge and release is simple, but some people make it hard because they think it should be. Think about holding an object in your hand, then deciding to drop it. Purge and release happens just like that. You decide to let it go and it’s gone. Anyone can do it. Small children do it automatically.
When you let something go, is it gone for good?
That layer, the one that came up, is gone. There are probably more layers; they are all related and they hook into each other. The outer layers always feel as bad as the inner layers. At first you might be afraid to re-experience your feelings, but as you practice purge and release it gets easier because you relax more and you resist less. As the layers dissipate, you’ll find that surprising things start to
happen in your life.
Can you give me a practical example of how purge and release can help with everyday situations?
One client was very resistant to cold calling, which was necessary to grow her business, so she decided to release as soon as she felt any resistance. She would simply focus on the feeling in her body and then let it go. After a few minutes, when the feeling was gone, she could easily pick up the phone and start making calls.
When a person feels bad, they might exercise or do something else to help them feel good. Is this the same as the purge and release
process?
No. That’s ignoring the pain and stuffing it down again. Even “wholesome” activities like reading and exercising can become addictions if we use them to get rid of our pain. The way to get rid of the negative energy for good is to recognize it (feel it in your body), accept it (don’t resist) and let it go.
What does a typical coaching session look like?
Generally, coaches will start by discussing the events of the week. When the client discusses a “bad” event—something that upset or irritated him—the negative energy will come up. The coach may ask him if he would like to release it, and usually the answer is “yes.” The patient is encouraged to get comfortable, to close his eyes and relax into his heart. Then the coach may ask questions such as: “Are you willing to let go of the feeling?”; “If the energy had a voice, what would it say?”; “Can you send yourself/this person some approval?”
During this time, the client is communicating with the coach and silently doing the internal work. Questions are always in response to what a client says to his coach. This process may take just a few minutes or up to an hour; it’s complete when the client feels at peace with the issue.
Do I need to have a coach to use the purge and release process?
You can purge and release on your own, but at first it helps to have someone guide you; the “trust muscle” is like any other muscle—it takes time to develop. Also a coach can take you much deeper, which means you’ll release more negative energy and heal faster.
