Happy Fourth of July! Most teens forget about what the Fourth of July is about, which is the day America became independent. This Fourth of July, make sure you are not only celebrating summer and being out of school , it’s not only about the fireworks either, just make sure to give a little thanks to all the Americans who gave their lives to give our country its independence. Have a great Fourth of July!
Last month we went over Habit five in the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, by Sean Covey. This month is all about Habit six, which is titled, “Synergize.” You may not know what this word means, so let me explain. Synergize means when two people work together and create a better solution to a problem; it’s my way, your way. It’s the better way, the higher way! The author goes on to explain how great synergy can be, and how fast work gets done. Here are the key points to look for:
Synergy can be hard to do, especially because everyone’s brain works differently. So as you might already know, a lot of kids work differently. Have you ever been in math class and a teacher shows you how to do a math problem one way, but you had already learned how to work out this problem using a different system; and then the kid sitting next to you uses a different system then you and the teacher. You, the kid sitting next to you, and the teacher have different systems, and differ- ent working brains. Dr. Thomas Armstrong said that kids may learn best through their most dominant intelligence:
• Linguistic: learn through reading, writing, telling stories
• Logical-Mathematical:learnthroughlogic,patterns,categories, relationships
• Bodily-Kinesthetic:learnthroughbodilysensations,touching
• Spatial: learn through images and pictures
• Musical: learn through sound and rhythm
• Interpersonal:Learnthroughinteractionandcommunication with others
• Intrapersonal: Learn through their own feelings
