Father’s Day

by Ariana Purcell, 12 years old |

As you probably know, but I’ll say it anyway, Father’s Day is just around the corner. It is a special day for dads, all across our country. A day for you to celebrate how great your dad is and to be grateful for all of the things he does for you and your family. Remember to give your dad a big hug and say “thanks for all that you do, dad!”

On Father’s Day, I like to use my chore money to buy my dad a small gift. Last year, I gave him an eight-pack of SpongeBob golf balls. Of course, he went golfing that day and lost all of them. But, at least he used them, right?

This year, do something special for your dad. You could buy him a small gift, make a gift or do something around the house that you would not normally do. You could also ask him if he would like your help with anything.

Make sure to let him know that you love him and that you are thankful for having him as a dad.

Here is an eco-friendly project that you could do with your dad: “Nature’s Tail”

You will need:

  • Notebook
  • Pencil or Pen
  • Crayons or Markers

How to:

  1. Go to a local park, nearby pond or your backyard and look around the area. Jot down the types of plants and animals that you find in your notebook.
  2. When you get back home you can create your own story, using the plants and animals as your characters.
  3. You could also draw the characters and scenery for your story.
  4. To complete, add the story with the drawings. You can make a simple book by taking construction paper or plain white paper and fold each piece in half. Put the pieces of paper together in order and then staple them at the fold.

You could give this as a gift to your dad and have the story be about Father’s Day. I.e. “Baby mouse and Papa mouse go out for cheese.”

Happy Father’s Day!
