Editor’s Letter

“The red, white and blue. The red, white and blue. Hat’s off to a grand old flag. The red, white and blue,” comes forth with a powerful belt as my twins sing it loud and proud, tandem style. Then, my little one joins in. What a glorious feeling to know that our schools are still offering a little prideful song to our children’s repertoire.

Showing pride for one’s country is a good thing. In fact, even in our current state, putting forth a display of love for this land, and its people, might actually bring us closer to reality. Ultimately, if our country is at war, endures a political meltdown or financial crisis, we are still habitants of this land. We’re sort of in it together; for the long haul. Instead of focusing our energies on the negative aspects of our country, and how we all “think” it should be regulated, maybe we should become a little introspective?

Find pride in who you are, and celebrate yourself. Find pride in where you live, and celebrate your choice to live here. We all know there is no perfect, and I’m not idealistic enough to pretend that our country is not facing a massive shift…although, I do believe security calms a turbulent mind; so maybe the pride I have for my country can help smooth the coming wrinkles of uncertainty?

Join us this month in celebrating you and your freedom to choose. June Milligan’s article, “The future ain’t what it used to be. So Change your thinking and celebrate life,” tells us that no matter where we are going, positive thinking will be our guiding light. You’ll also find that Rev. Jack Elliott’s column sheds another poignant perspective on the celebration of life.

We hope you have a happy 4th of July, and that your celebration comes from within!
