Dorothy Dumbra

Educator & Specialized Kinesiologist
By Sara Piccola
Dorothy Dumbra is a Registered Nurse (UCD), Clinical Nutritionist and Specialized Kinesiologist, with an extensive background in traditional and integrative medicine, applied kinesiology and nutrition. In addition, Dorothy completed a 4-year program in Theology from Loyola, New Orleans, IME, and is certified in Clinical Pastoral Counseling and Education. For more than 30 years she has worked with private clients, professional and educational organizations and groups to serve the growth of others.
Dorothy has published, presented and educated widely, on subjects including advanced kinesiology, allergies, candida, cardiovascular and respiratory disorders, chronic fatigue, diet and nutrition, energy work, hormone replacement therapy, meditation, oriental medicine, osteoporosis and arthritis, spirituality, stress management and Touch For Health, as well as specific women’s and men’s health issues.
Today, as an educator and counselor living in the thriving community of South Lake Tahoe, Dorothy is dedicated to the education of others. In her private practice, Dorothy’s healing approach is to integrate and balance the whole person by increasing personal responsibility and awareness of one’s health. She develops nutritional and educational programs based upon the body’s own feedback, obtained through the use of applied kinesiology and other health assessment tools. Through this process, Dorothy’s clients learn how to recognize allergic reactions and physiological conditions such as glycemic dysfunction, thyroid and digestive disorders and other signs of stress or imbalance. Her objective is to awaken the body’s innate potential to achieve rapid healing and optimum physical and emotional health status.
Like many other practitioners in the integrative/alternative medicine field, Dorothy believes that disease begins in the energy fields of the body long before other physical symptoms become apparent. Applied kinesiology (muscle response testing developed by Dr. George Goodhart, DC) monitors the energy flow through muscles and may be used to determine and rebalance physiological, nutritional, environmental and emotional factors within the body. It is based upon clinically reproducible indicators and sound physiological principles.
Dorothy combines these approaches with her training in spiritual and emotional counseling, and mentoring to help clients make lasting and meaningful health and lifestyle changes. In this way, Dorothy synthesizes her holistic approach to healing, believing that the personal fabric of our physical, emotional and spiritual parts is like a spider web – if one strand is shaken, the entire fabric of the web is affected.
In the immediate future, Dorothy plans to begin classes in Touch For Health and preventive nutrition, bringing these powerful elements together to support total healing, pain relief and precise nutritional and structural integration. Her great joy in life is to share her many gifts with others.
